Well, this morning began with Hana waking up at 6:00 am. That was way too early for me since I had stayed up until the end of the football game and then Joe and I were so wound up we laid in bed and talked for about an hour before either one of us fell asleep. Hana had been asleep since about 9:00 pm, so she had a good 9 hours of sleep. I put her in bed with me and coerced her back to sleep until 8:00 am. I love happy baby snuggle time in the mornings! After breakfast we got ready for a trip to Wally World. We weren't even headed to our regular store, we needed to go to the one that's technically in Plano at 121 and Ohio. If you can believe this, I have been on a search for a new comforter set for our bedroom in our new house and after looking many, many places I happened to check Wal Mart online and they had a set Joe and I both fell in love with. I just think it's so funny. I looked at Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens N Things, and several other places but none of them really had anything we liked until we found this at Wal Mart. I figure if it falls apart we'll just buy another one! LOL
So anyway, this particular Wal Mart had what I was looking for so off we went, which brings me to my next subject. Car seats. YUCK! We definitely have learned a lot since having Hana Grace. I originally registered for one car seat. Not knowing what I was doing, I never got a second base for it. Then my wonderful brother and Angela got us this awesome travel system which came with a really pretty and very nice car seat. The car seat they got us was smaller and more manageable for me so it went in my car. The big bulky one went in Joe's. Gas prices went up causing Joe to start driving my car since he drives so far to work and my Accord gets awesome gas mileage, thus sticking me with his 2-door SUV and the big bulky car seat. Needless to say it was near impossible for me to get that thing in and out of a 2-door SUV so we switched the car seats. That was working wonderfully until, guess what...Hana has outgrown the nice little car seat. So now we need to switch them back but haven't so I am back driving my wonderful car (which I miss driving dearly). What's the point of this long, drawn out story you ask? The point is that I wasn't in my normal vehicle today so I didn't have my normal stuff i.e., Hana's shopping cart cover.
I didn't have the cover and the big bulky car seat is too big and bulky to sit in a shopping cart (she's really getting too big for that anyway IMO). There weren't any carts in the parking lot so I had to carry Hana in and with her on my hip try to disinfect the shopping cart. I agree that she needs to be exposed to germs and things, but NOT Wal Mart germs! They're on a whole other level! So I cleaned it as best I could and cringed as I sat her in the seat. (You know me)
For some reason today she wanted to face the direction we were going which meant she was practically sitting backwards in the seat. Then she decided she needed to lean over as far as she could to look at something and the seat belt broke and she bumped her head. She screamed so loud it cleared the aisle. (Her head is fine) As I pulled her out of the seat to hold her I got a whiff of something she had cooked up in her britches. Great. Not only was I going to have to deal with a dirty shopping cart today, but I also had to deal with their changing station. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was nice and clean (I still wiped it down, of course).
After the new diaper Hana decided she no longer wanted to sit in the shopping cart. She wanted to be held. After struggling with this and getting concerned looks from passersby I gave in and carried her to the checkout where I once again did my best with only one hand free. The marvelous lady behind me helped me unload my purchases and commented on the nursing pads I was buying. She said it took her back many years to when she was nursing and thought she could have fed at small country. I laughed and shared my story of donating my surplus. She told me how wonderful I am and that good things will come to me for doing such a nice thing. Okay, after the shopping experience I had just had this made my day. I couldn't believe how nice this lady was! Then, to top it off, as I finished unloading everything into my trunk, another nice woman walked up and offered to take my shopping cart to the cart return so I could take care of Hana (who was still a bit fussy). She said "I remember that routine. You never seem to have enough hands. Once you get her out of the cart I'd love to return your cart for you." This was like the Wal Mart from Heaven! It's amazing how such simple words and gestures can change your day. I then got in the car and looked in the mirror to see if I looked like hell. I figured I must have for these nice ladies to take pity on me! What a wonderful ending to our shopping trip! Thank you fabulous 121 and Ohio Wal Mart and thank you to the two
wonderful ladies who made my day!
