The Calm After the Storm

We did it! We made it through all the tears and had a peaceful night! She is still asleep as I write this! The crying lasted about 30 minutes, which was 30 minutes too long if you ask me. Joe is so wonderful and so incredibly patient! He stayed right there with her the entire time and talked to her and patted her on the butt, but he toughed it out and never picked her up. She figured out how to calm herself down and finally went to sleep. She did not make a peep all night long! (and you know I've checked to make sure she's breathing!) Now the question is how many more nights will this go on for? My wish is that last night was the end of it. Another question is will our trip to Galveston set us back? The answer: more than likely. But that's okay. We'll just start over if we have to. But if she cries like that in our hotel, Joe and I agree that she'll just have to sleep with us. We will never be "those people!"

I have to say that I really think the problem is what they call nighttime separation anxiety. It sounds crazy, I know, but I've read all about it. She is aware enough now that she realizes our absence and presence. The bottom line is she figured out how to calm herself down, which is very important, and then she slept all the way through the night without a problem! I had no idea problems like this existed. I truly thought that once a baby started to sleep through the night that was it. I expected a night here and there, I knew it wouldn't be perfect, but I never expected this. I never thought we would be battling it out with her. You know, most babies would probably give in after 10-15 minutes and realize that mommy & daddy are not going to pick them up. Not our Hana Grace, the spawn of two of the most stubborn people in the world. So all we really have to thank are ourselves.

Every day is a new adventure and I wake up excited every morning. (I had a Rev Run moment there) I better go because I promised her last night that I would be right beside her when she woke up in the morning, and I'm going to keep my promise!
