Karma

As most of you know, Joe and I met ten years ago while working together at a bank. He was a personal banker and I was a part-time teller. He started working at that bank about a month before me, I think it was. He and my (our) long-time friend, Dawn, started at the same time. He opened my bank account for me and ordered my checks. When I received my new checks, I was surprised to find that Jokester Joe had played a little trick on me. My checks arrived with cowboys and horses on them and displayed next to my name was a picture of a piece of wood with LUMBER written under it. Nice. I demanded more be ordered, but used the "lumber" checks while I waited on the new ones to arrive. The new ones were worse than the "lumber" checks, so I ended up just sticking with those.

To this day Joe laughs about those checks as well as the ones he ordered for other coworkers over the years. One of his proudest orders, I believe, were for one of his fraternity brothers that worked with him. His checks showed up with pink roses on them and above the signature line they read "Ask me about my grandchildren." Oh, Jokester Joe.

See, now the tables have turned. Now he's the boss. He doesn't order checks. Now he asks his employees to order his checks. His sweet, innocent employees who have never had one of Joe's check pranks pulled on them. Imagine Joe's surprise when his checks arrived in the mail yesterday and they looked like this:

Great job, unnamed employee! Kudos to you! Even though Joe has never had the opportunity to pull his check prank on you, somehow I get the feeling he's pulled other pranks. Well done, unnamed employee! Well done!
