Picking My Battles

What's this?

I'm getting better and better about picking my battles. Raising an opinionated (sassy), independent (bossy), strong-minded (3 going on 30), strong-willed (too big for her britches) little girl has made me what I hope is a better me. I'm letting go of a lot and really learning to pick my battles. So what is that picture above? Well, that's Hana's lunch. The old me would have never let her have cereal for lunch after she had cereal for breakfast and a cereal bar for a snack. But hey, at least the cereal bar had fruit and nuts in it! I usually try to push for a much healthier lunch, not that cereal is unhealthy, it's just not much variety after she had a bowl for breakfast. When we had this conversation:
ME: Would you like a sandwich for lunch?
HANA: I want cereal.
ME: Well, you had cereal this morning.
HANA: I want more (Frosted) Flakes, please. With marshmallows.
(I don't know what made her ask for marshmallows in her cereal. She's had marshmallows and she's had cereal, but never together...not even Lucky Charms, which just so happens to be my all-time favorite cereal, but I never buy it.)
ME: (At first I wanted to dig my feet in as I normally do and insist she pick something else, but I saw the all-too-familiar determination in her eyes and I said...) Okay! Frosted Flakes with marshmallows it is. And guess what! I'm even going to throw in a banana and some pomegranate! Doesn't that sound yummy?
HANA: Yes! I've never had banana and pomegranate in my cereal before, have I? I've never had it at the same time!
(And she gobbled it up!)
SCORE!!!
