Peekaboo!
I see you.
And I already love you.
It seems like it has taken forever to get to this point.
Let me just go ahead and issue a TMI (too much information) warning.
You may have noticed that I announced I was pregnant and then haven't really mentioned it much. I first went to the doctor a couple weeks ago thinking I was 7-8 weeks pregnant.
If you know anything about a woman getting pregnant, you know that you base it off the date of her last cycle. Using that calculation I should have been 7-8 weeks along. We went to the doctor for our first sonogram and nothing was found. No baby. No gestational sac. Nothing. But I had been experiencing just about every pregnancy symptom in the book for over a week already, so that was promising. It was just assumed that I wasn't as far along as I though I was. They took blood and the following day it was confirmed that I was indeed pregnant, so I was happy that I at least was not crazy and 4 (yes, count them, four) home pregnancy tests had not lied.
Then I had to go for more blood work to make sure my hcg levels were doubling as they should. This was just a precautionary step my doctor wanted to take. Well, they didn't quite double as hoped, which didn't necessarily mean there was anything wrong, but the doctor wanted to take another look. He also found that my progesterone levels were a little low so he wrote me a prescription and then last Tuesday I went back in for another sonogram and they found a sac! HOORAY! From there they were able to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and we stuck with the logical assumption that I just wasn't that far along. They estimated from that sono that I was 5 weeks 3 days along and when you're only that far along in a pregnancy a baby cannot been seen anyway.
So last Thursday I went in for another sonogram and that is where I received the picture above. The hope for this visit was to see a baby and a flickering heartbeat and we got both! So now, according to the most recent measurements, I am approximately 6 weeks 4 days along and the estimated due date is June 5th. I have done the math and concluded that I must have literally known I was pregnant the day it happened. Seriously. I told a good friend of mine I thought I was pregnant at the beginning of September and hoped to be able to tell Joe for our 5 year anniversary. (TMI WARNING!!!) I began taking pregnancy tests a week later. You know, the ones that say they can detect pregnancy up to a week before your missed period? Well, I was so frustrated because I just knew I was pregnant but I couldn't get a test to prove it. According to my calculations, I became "late" and still couldn't get a test to prove I was pregnant, so I decided to wait a while. I read online that the absolute best time to take a pregnancy test was a week after your missed period. So I waited.
A week after our anniversary I had a dream that I "passed a test," so I woke up that morning and took another test and it was positive! (Can you tell I was insanely obsessed by now?) It was faint, but it was definitely there. Knowing that Joe, being the man that he is, would find that test skeptical, I went and bought a digital test and it clearly read PREGNANT. It's laughable because I was so frustrated thinking the test was not able to give me "early results," when it actually gave me incredibly early results! By these calculations I was just a day shy of two weeks pregnant when I got a positive result! I don't know if that's amazing or insane, but whatever it is, it's wonderful and I'm grateful. (TMI!!!) Apparently I ovulate irregularly, but I never claimed to be regular in any way! I was already two months into it before I discovered I was pregnant with Hana, but I guess I'm a little more in tune with my body these days. Now I just pray for things to go smoothly from here on out. It's sure to seem like an eternity before I get to meet this little nugget, but I plan to savor every second of it just like I did the last time--and look how well that turned out. ;-)
Here's another look at our newest love.
