What a truly precious little girl I have! I fell more in love with her today than I thought possible! This morning was her 9-month well visit. After checking in at the front desk and being complimented on the spelling of her name (very common), I noticed they had added something very pretty to the waiting room. They now have a fish aquarium with fake fish in it. It's like a piece of art. It was beautiful. Someone took all the usual aquarium decor (ie., rocks, coral, etc.) and placed them in a huge aquarium and glued beautiful porcelain fish to them, complete with those little colored glass "bubbles" and all. I took Hana Grace over to see the fishies, but at first she was more concerned with making friends with the lovely couple and their newborn sitting next to it. She waved once, twice, three, four times and "talked" to them. After her conversation with these people she did enjoy looking at the fish, the crab, the turtle (to which she responded "tur?"). Our name was quickly called to go back and see the doctor.
The nurse walked us to the room and measured Hana's head: 18.3" = 97th percentile. We then laid her down and measured her: 29.3" long = 97th percentile. Then I had to strip her down and we weighed her: 22.9 oz = 95th percentile. Now it was time to see Dr. Nail. Hana brought along Jirafa (that's Spanish for giraffe, you Zoners! LOL) When Dr. Nail entered the room he had a student observer with him. Hana waved to them and quickly made friends with the student observer and offered Jirafa to him. During the exam she was very generous with Jirafa and offered him to everyone in the room at least 5 times. Of course they got a kick out of this and Dr. Nail was very impressed with her kindness. I was told that is a sign of intelligence and security. Apparently most kids her age cry and scream a lot, not my girl!
I had to fill out a developmental checklist that went a little something like this:
Does your child stand while supported? Yes
Does your child use her fingers to rake small objects dropped on the floor? Yes
Does your child use two fingers to pick up objects? Yes
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. I was afraid the doctor might think I just checked yes and didn't read the questions! LOL Then Dr. Nail starts with the questions. "Is she putting consonants together like da da, ga ga, ba ba?" Before I could answer Hana said "Dada?" and looked around as if she were looking for her Daddy! Obviously Dr. Nail was incredibly impressed with that. She received all A+'s and they left the room.
It was now time for her to receive two vaccines, Hep B and Polio. Once again, she was an angel. She fussed a little because she was being held down, but once released she was good to go. She waved good bye to the nurse who gave her the shots and off we went to the counter to schedule her 12-month well visit. She waved at everyone behind the counter and said her version of the word "hi" (which sounds a little like a hiss). A couple walked up behind us with their newborn and Hana had to wave and say hello to them as well. This woman had an absolute fit over her so, of course, this meant Hana really had to ham it up. She waved with one hand, then both hands all while bouncing up and down and saying "hi."
Well, that's the conclusion of her 9-month well visit. We go back for her 12-month well visit on December 3. I cannot believe her next doctor's visit will be her 12-month! The receptionist and I discussed Hana's ability to eat turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving...it's going to make me cry. She's such a little lady now, and she is not lacking in character one bit!
